Does removing EXIF data affect image quality?
No. EXIF data is stored separately from the actual pixel data. Stripping it leaves the image dimensions, color depth, and visual quality completely intact. The only difference is file size — cleaned files are typically a few kilobytes smaller.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
Never. PrivacyStrip runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Files are read into local browser memory, processed there, and written back to a download — nothing passes over the network to any server.
Does social media strip EXIF data automatically?
Most platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter) recompress images on upload, which removes many EXIF fields as a side effect. However, the stripping is inconsistent and platform-specific — some retain GPS in certain upload paths. Removing EXIF before sharing is the only reliable guarantee.
Can I remove EXIF from iPhone HEIC photos?
