Windows can remove some photo metadata without extra software, but it won’t always strip everything. Here are the safest ways to clean EXIF and GPS data before you share images online.

Option 1: Remove properties in File Explorer

  1. Right‑click the photo file and choose Properties.
  2. Open the Details tab.
  3. Click Remove Properties and Personal Information.
  4. Select Create a copy with all possible properties removed.
  5. Share the copy instead of the original.

This removes many common fields, but some EXIF or embedded GPS tags can remain depending on file type.

Option 2: Strip all EXIF metadata on Windows (recommended)

PrivacyStrip removes all metadata in your browser without uploading your files anywhere. It works the same on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

  1. Open privacystrip.com in Edge or Chrome.
  2. Select your photos.
  3. Review detected EXIF/GPS fields.
  4. Click Remove All Metadata and download the cleaned files.
