Photos taken on iPhone or Android often include hidden EXIF metadata — GPS coordinates, timestamps, device model, and camera settings. If you share photos from your Mac, it’s worth removing that data first. Start with our EXIF overview if you’re new to this.
Option 1: Disable location tagging for future iPhone photos
If your Mac photos come from iPhone, the best fix is upstream: disable camera location tagging so new photos don’t include GPS. Follow the steps in our iPhone guide.
Option 2: Remove location when exporting from Photos (macOS)
- Open Photos and select the images.
- Go to File → Export → Export Photos…
- In the export dialog, look for a checkbox like Location Information and turn it off.
- Export, then share the exported copies.
This typically removes GPS data, but other EXIF fields can remain.
Option 3: Strip all EXIF metadata on Mac (recommended)
For full privacy, remove all metadata before uploading anywhere. PrivacyStrip works directly in your browser on Mac — your files never leave your computer.
- Open privacystrip.com in Safari or Chrome.
- Select your photos.
- Review detected EXIF/GPS data.
- Click Remove All Metadata.
- Download the cleaned files and share those.
